Biology is about studying life, and since you're alive, it's really about you. Hopefully you'll find this very interesting!
Seek to improve your learning by polishing each project (page) in your notebook, until you've earned at least two stamps on each!

Grades are posted!!!

Congratulations everyone on passing the first semester of Biology!!!

If the world doesn't end today, let's meet up for next semester, same place, same time(s).

Final is on Wednesday - Review is due then

Work on the review, quiz yourself, etc.

Turn in the completed review for a little bonus!

Check your grades - if you see any errors, bring documentation to the final so we can fix it!!!!

All notebook work due Friday

If you have any makeup work, fill out the "Last chance for credit" sheet, stick it in the front of the notebook, and circle the pages you have fixed

120 Cellular Respiration...

Is the opposite of photosynthesis  - glucose is broken apart, and the energy is used to make lots of ATP molecules which allow the reactions of metabolism to occur in organisms...

Draw the reaction, and answer the questions below:

  1. What is the reaction for cellular respiration?  (products and reactants)
  2. What kinds of cells do cellular respiration?
  3. In what organelle does cellular respiration occur?
  4. What little energy carrying molecule results from cellular respiration?
Need more help?  There are so many videos/tutorials online about photosynthesis&cellular respiration - take a few minutes to look around and teach yourself!

119 Photosynthesis

Diagram/write the answers to these questions:

  1. What are the products and reactants of photosynthesis?
  2. What is needed for the reaction to occur?
  3. What kind of cells can do photosynthesis?
  4. In which organelle does photosynthesis occur?

118 - Pictures and steps of mitosis

Show the order of the five steps of the cell cycle (I, PMAT), and tape the correct pictures at each step.

Sunday, December 9, 2012

Monday and Tuesday

Learn the steps of mitosis, and what major events are occuring in each step.

Make sure you know when the DNA is duplicated, (is it during mitosis?)

What happens when cells just keep doing mitosis over and over?  (What is this called?)

117 - Mitosis

then copy this next line:
mitosis
Then go to the ADAPTIVE CURRICULUM web site, log in, and paste the line above into the search box...
Click on play and complete the LEARNER JOURNAL (pp.112-113) handouts are on the front desk

If you have time, check out the cancer modules on that same page - they're really interesting, and they'll help you understand what happens when mitosis goes bad...

116 How big can cells get?

As big as they want?  Or does that cause problems with homeostasis?

Let's do an experiment to find out... (and think about the size of your cells)

114-115 Cell membrane

Get a computer for your table,
Take the osmosis quiz at the adaptive curriculum site [click on the clipboard with the check mark] & let Mr. Chapman know how you do (open notes, etc.) - do you understand the questions that you missed (if any?)

then copy this next line:
cell membrane
Then go to the ADAPTIVE CURRICULUM web site, log in, and paste the line above into the search box...
Click on play and complete the LEARNER JOURNAL (pp.112-113) handouts are on the front desk

Reminder - notebook check today!!!
